balanceOS is a personal habit, challenge and money tracker. This policy explains exactly what it stores, where that lives, who else ever sees it, and how to delete all of it.
It covers the balanceOS iOS app, the balanceOS Android app and the balanceOS web app. In this document "we" means Backstreet Ventures Private Limited, which operates balanceOS.
Everything below is stored because you entered it or connected it. Nothing is collected about how you use the app. The only reads made while the app is closed are of the health data you allowed, so a habit you linked can log itself (see below).
| Category | What it is |
|---|---|
| Account | Your username, email address, and — only if you choose those sign-in methods — your phone number and Apple ID. Your PIN is a password held by Firebase Authentication; we never see it. |
| Health & activity | Figures read from Apple Health (iPhone) or Health Connect (Android) for the types you allow, and — only if you turn on family sharing — a daily summary of your Health Connect data for the one person you choose. See the sections below. |
| Habits & challenges | The habits you create, your daily logs and streaks, the challenges you join, and the proof photos you post to them. |
| Money | Expenses, categories and budgets you record; savings goals; trips; and any net-worth, holdings or investment figures you enter. |
| Photos | Challenge proof photos, your avatar, and receipt images you choose to scan. |
| Connections | Access tokens for services you explicitly connect — Splitwise, Strava, Zerodha Kite. These are held server-side only and are never readable by any app client. |
| Notifications | A device push token, if you turn reminders on. |
balanceOS does not collect your location. The app requests no location permission and contains no location APIs. Places attached to a trip are ones you typed or picked from a search — not somewhere your phone reported you were.
If you connect Apple Health on iPhone, or Health Connect on Android (where Samsung Health, Google Fit, Strava and other apps keep their data), balanceOS reads only the data types you individually allow, and only so a habit or challenge you have linked can log itself instead of you tapping it.
Depending on what you allow and on your phone, that can include steps, walking and running distance, cycling distance, swimming distance, active energy, exercise and stand minutes, flights climbed, recorded workouts, weight, body fat percentage, heart rate and resting heart rate, sleep, mindful minutes, water, and calories consumed.
Read-only, always. balanceOS never writes anything back to Apple Health or Health Connect. It requests read access only.
Never used for advertising or data mining. Health data is used solely to log the habits and challenges you linked, to draw the proof card for a workout or day you logged from Health, and — only if you turn it on — to show the one person you chose your health through family sharing. It is never used for advertising, marketing, credit or insurance decisions, never sold, never shared with data brokers, never used to train AI, and never disclosed to anyone you did not choose.
In the background, only to log your habits. If you allow it, balanceOS reads the same health data while the app is closed, so a linked habit logs itself and your streak does not break because you did not open the app that day.
You can withdraw it at any time — on iPhone in Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → balanceOS, on Android in Health Connect → App permissions → balanceOS. The app keeps working; those habits simply go back to being logged by hand.
A figure read from Health is stored alongside the log it produced, so you can check later what the phone actually saw rather than taking the log on faith.
You can choose to share your health with one person who looks after you — a parent, a partner, a carer — under Profile → Apple Health (iPhone) or Profile → Health Connect (Android) → Share with family. It is off until you turn it on, and only you can turn it on: nobody can request it, and that includes us.
While it is on, balanceOS copies a daily summary of the last 30 days of your Apple Health or Health Connect data — activity, workouts, heart rate and heart-rate variability, sleep, blood oxygen, blood pressure, blood glucose, breathing rate, body temperature, weight and body measurements, water and food — to our database, where only the person you named can read it, on their Home screen under Family health. The copy is refreshed when your phone opens the app or syncs in the background.
You can stop at any time with Stop sharing, and the person you chose can stop seeing it too. Either way, everything that was copied is deleted.
If you connect Splitwise, Strava or Zerodha Kite, balanceOS exchanges data with them on your behalf and under your authorisation. You can disconnect any of them in the app, which discards the stored token. Their own privacy policies govern what they do with data on their side.
Members of a challenge you join can see your username, avatar, streak, whether you logged each day, and the proof posts you make to that challenge. If you turn on family sharing, the one person you chose can see the health summary described above. Nothing financial is ever visible to another user.
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers. There is no advertising, no third-party analytics, and no tracking of you across other apps or websites.
In the app: Profile → Delete my account. You will be asked to type your username to confirm.
This permanently deletes your profile, habits, streaks, logs, expenses, wealth records, trips, avatar, archived challenge photos, connected-service tokens and any health data you shared or were shown, removes you from the challenges you were in, and deletes your sign-in account. It cannot be undone.
Data is transmitted over HTTPS and stored in Google Cloud with access rules that scope every record to its owner. Financial and health records are readable only by the account that owns them — and a shared health summary, by the one person its owner chose, for as long as they keep sharing. Access tokens for connected services are held in a store that no app client can read — only server-side functions can. You can additionally lock the app behind Face ID or a device passcode in Profile.
No system is perfectly secure, and we do not claim otherwise.
balanceOS is not directed at children and is not intended for anyone under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and it will be deleted.
You can view and edit everything balanceOS holds about you from inside the app, and delete all of it at any time using the account deletion above. If you would like a copy of your data, or have a question about how it is handled, contact us.
If this policy changes materially, the date at the top will change and the app will say so. Continuing to use balanceOS after a change means the updated policy applies.
